New Day in the Peace Ministries in Fort St. John serves women and their families with addictive and otherwise broken lifestyles as they are willing to seek freedom and healing and want to lead a life of purpose.

We offer them a relationship with God and with others in community, and the opportunity to change from the inside out.

One year has already gone by since we began to receive women into the New Day house. I am thankful for the many volunteers and board members that have made the past year possible. I am thankful for the nine years of experience with the men’s ministry that has prepared us for the present.
For five months of the past year Sherri Williams was the executive director of New Day. When she found another place of employment, my husband asked me what I would do now. I said, I don’t know. His answer caught me by surprise, he said, “ I think you are the person that should be at the New Day house. I will support you in every way if you want to give it a try.” So since July 1st I have been there from Monday to Friday 9-6, and I have to say it feels like a place that I have been being prepared for all of my life. It has made me so aware that only God can bring the changes we all hope for. It has brought an urgency to pray always. I love spending time with the women. There is something so refreshing to be with those who are truly looking for change. It is exciting to see the progress for each person. It is like seeing God’s finger on each life, sometimes just planting some seeds and releasing and trusting someone else will be sent to water them, and other times actually seeing the fruit. I count it a privilege.

We have many great resources in place now. Life’s Healing Choices by John Baker has been a great growing tool. From Shame to Beauty by Marie Powers is another. Every Friday this fall we invite the husbands for a great dinner and the Alpha course. Kathy Walker comes Thursday afternoons with Joy Starts here. We are always amazed at how the morning bible study and other opportunities all dove tail together, answering questions that have just come up a few hours before.
From November 23- 27th, Fay Wuthrich will be in house to offer a Grief Recovery course. She has just completed training as a pastor in this area. We would like to offer anyone interested, to join us for this week. This course is not just for those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, but would also cover losses such as divorce, health, career and faith.

So many others have come along side to make things happen. Pastor Kebede Dibaba volunteers weekly counselling time for the women, and they always come away amazed at how God meets there presenting needs through him. Other volunteers come insisting that I take some time off, and others still, are willing to live in the modular in exchange for room and board while covering the evenings, weekends and nights. It truly does amaze me how such gifted people have been called with the necessary passion as each need arises. All staff and volunteers are working on a volunteer basis, making it possible to float another year, while still taking steps towards our 2018 goal, of moving to the New Day property.

The cottage has a bathroom and bedroom added, donated by Haab Homes. It stands ready to move into place once all the services are in. Roger’s trucking has promised gravel for the completion of the road, Mike King is completing the hydro the middle of October, Independent Plumbing greatly reduced the cost of Municipal pipe to pump to the lagoon, Peace River Building supply is doing the same for the septic tank, HCL donated the move of the cabin and stands on deck with the back hoe, others surprise us with ongoing monetary gifts to tie it all together. My patient husband comes at beck and call for all the honey do list. I give thanks for we are very blessed.
